4 questions to ask before you hire a cleaner

Maybe Danny down the road has a cleaner that she waxes lyrical about or you just want someone to take the cleaning off your plate...

Whether you choose Just Cleaning Glasgow or another company, there are some considerations. While we'd love to be your cleaner, we understand that it can be a big decision.

Here are some things to consider or ask when hiring your first cleaner:

1. Cost

The cost of a UK cleaning service can be influenced by multiple factors including,

• local area within the UK

• size of premise (e.g. number of rooms)

• time of required clean

• type of company you use: independent cleaners can charge £13 per hour while large cleaning companies can charge £35 per hour

• whether you or the company provides cleaning solutions and equipment

• whether the company vets their staff

The important thing is to have a few conversations with different cleaning companies.

We charge a fixed rate of £23 per hour, minimum 2 hours per clean.

2. Trust

Allowing someone you don't know into your home can cause unease. While a lot of customers are happy to use someone recommended by a friend, some may want more reassurance.

Ask the company if and how they vet their employees. This can cover a criminal record check. In Scotland, this would be a Basic Disclosure check and in England and Wales, it's Disclosure and Barring Services.

We vet all our staff using a Basic Disclosure, interview and references.

3. Quality

Using a cleaner means you're leaving the standard of cleaning with someone else so make sure you ask what to expect and what's included. Many cleaning companies will have separate pricing for deep, general and specialist cleaning.

Ask if there are any quality guarantees and what they list within their different types of cleaning services.

Our £23 per hour is for general cleaning. For more specialist services, we will quote separately.

4. Chores included

Everyone has different preferences for how their home should be cleaned, and if there's a lack of communication and understanding, then this preference may go unmet.

Ask what your clean will include, what tasks can be covered. You can have a list and clearly communicate what deliverables you expect to see once the clean has been completed.

We call or visit for an in-depth conversation. We ask questions, listen and use customisable cleaning checklists. This allows us to understand your expectations and let you know what we're able to deliver.
